I got an email from a buddy today asking if I wanted to go mountain biking next week. That sounded like a pretty good idea to me, except that I don’t have a mountain bike. I used to ride mountain bikes when I was young and crazy, but I sold that bike about 5 years ago.
The Wildwood is the closest thing I have, and I have been spending the past few days trying to make it more road-bikeish.
So, I got some big-ass tires, and decided to built a bike in homage to the 1987 Bridgestone MB-1.
- 26″ Tires
- Drop bars
- Bar-end shifters
- Chicks dig it.
It’s basically done. I am just waiting for a seatpost which is en route (needed a bit more setback). It probably won’t get here in time for Monday’s ride, but I am pleased with the results.
While I was at the LBS picking out tires, I got a spoke wrench. I was able to get my wheel pretty well trued up without a stand. Now my rear brakes work too!
