Mechanicsburg almost all mapped

Standard

I think I have mapped about 99% of all the streets in the borough of Mechanicsburg.

Check it out and let me know if I missed your street.

If you don’t live in Mechanicsburg, stay tuned. The GIS surveying bicycle extravaganza is working on mapping Summerdale, Lemoyne, Wormleysburg, New Cumberland, Marysville, Camp Hill, and even Midtown Harrisburg.

If you have a neighborhood that’s nice to ride bikes in, let me know, and it might get surveyed sooner than later.

  1. Cool Map. I’m moving to Silver Spring Twp. next year just north of the Borough. Cool to see someone having fun with GIS in the area mapping out the streets. I was looking at a histortical and topo maps today and it looks like a portion of the old trail of the AT ran thru mechanicsburg borough / silver spring twp streets to the west and northwest around the borough. The trail ran along Clouser Rd (south of 641) / onto West Trindle Rd / then onto Bare Rd / State Rd then onto Texaco Rd / 114 / and then onto Woods Dr / over to Silver Spring Rd. Must have been a shortcut or stop for people wanting to get some supplies in Mechanicsburg before heading north above Harrisburg and getting back on the Ridgline. Check out the Soil Mapper that Penn State has and turn on the USGS Quad Topo maps and you will see the Trail labeled around Mechaniscburg.
