New Rail Trail In Lewisburg

Standard

It looks like there’s gonna be a new rail trail up north in my bucolic homeland.

The Lewisburg Area Recreation Authority has agreed to purchase the 11.8 miles of track and right-of-way owned by the West Shore Railroad stretching from Montandon through Lewisburg to Mifflinburg with the intention of converting it to a trail that can be used by walkers, joggers, bikers and cross-country skiers.

By the way, The chairman of the Lewisburg Area Recreation Authority is running for State Senate, and he’s way cooler then the other guy. If you live in the 23rd district, you should check out his webpage.

I have a problem with this though. I don’t want horse shit on my rail trail.

“Given the Amish and Mennonite population in the Valley, Zimmerman said buggy access also is being considered.”

  2. All the rail trails have horse shit on them anyways because of the equestrians.

This is why all bikes need fenders.

It would be very hard to pass a buggy on a rail trail though. I don’t know how to say “on your left!” in Pennsylvania Dutch.

I think the Rail to Trail is the best thing that can happen to the Lewisburg area since our streets and sidewalks are over crowded by the bikers and joggers and no where for people to walk.

Lewisburg and Union County has so much beauty in the county just waiting for such a thing. There’s no better way for someone to get out to see the beauty of our great county except to take it all in then on a bike or just to get out and take a long walk.
