I’m a Bicycle Commuter Again

Standard

I rode my bike to work today for the first time since my crash.

That was in January. It was my first day of work for the year. It was supposed to be my way of starting off the new year being healthy, green, and weird. New Years resolutions and all that jazz.

I was laid up with injuries until March, and then we got some blizzards. So, I have an excuse for not riding for three months.

I don’t have much of an excuse for not commuting in April, May, or June. Laziness mostly, maybe a little bit of fear. Getting hit by a car is pretty scary, and it makes you overestimate the risks involved every time you ride with traffic.

I’m taking a slightly different route now, and avoiding the intersection where I got hit.

Anyhow, it feels good to be back at it.

  1. Kudos to getting back on your bike! Every day I bike, I’m afraid a car won’t see me and I’ll have nowhere to go, it’s a scary world out there.

I decided to bike to work today too, wasn’t counting on the rain though this evening! Hope you made it home safe and dry!

  2. That’s good stuff my friend.

I just had my first ride yesterday since my knee surgery in early June. My entire leg is still kinda sore from the doc moving around all kinds of ligaments and bone grinding- but I was getting too damn itchy looking at my bike sitting in the garage unridden for the last 2 months.

I’ve never been hit by a car……I’ve hit a few cars- but I grew up riding in heavy urban traffic. I’ve had folks get real close to me in heavy traffic and as a result….they received handlebar end shaped dents in the sides of their cars.

  3. Glad you’re back in action. I know what you mean, I was hit by a car a few years ago and I had to convince myself to get back on the bike. Scary stuff.
