I am getting tired of being kept out of the woods by snow, and a fatbike really isn’t in the budget for this year. So, I decided to get a pair of snowshoes. I put on my warmest hat, took them over to Boyd Big Tree Preserve and went for a walk.
It was a good time. I even took some Mapillary photos of my walk for the greater glory of Openstreetmap.
What about some kind of DIY fatbike?
I think I’ll wait until I have the money to buy an Ice Cream Truck. I’ve been thinking, I could build up a set of 29er wheels for an ICT, sell my Karate Monkey, and have 2 bikes for the price of 1.5.
If you went with an ECR you could use standard hubs for your 29er set, but I think either bike would be fun to ride.
I’m not sure the ECR is different enough from my Karate Monkey to be worth the bother. I’m actually hoping they come out with the “touring” version of the ICT, the way the ECR is the “touring” version of the Krampus.
Given the number of blogs with the riders doing true bikepacking on fatbikes, I think a touring based ICT would sell like hotcakes.
