Short Ride in the Rain

Standard

It was POURING down rain all morning, so I stayed inside and wrapped my other handlebar. When the rain faded to a heavy drizzle, the Trek and I set out in search of adventure, and to survey the flooding.About 5 miles into the ride, I heard a clanking noise and the bike didn’t want to go anymore.

I have no idea how this happened, but I BROKE my granny chainring. A piece of it is still laying in the road someplace in Lemoyne (I looked, but couldn’t find it).

It looks like the Trek will be going back to the shop for a new chainring. I don’t think I’ll be able to find a replacement biopace ring. I hope I don’t have to replace all three rings. I like the biopace stuff.

GRANNY

You can see by the grit and grime on the drivetrain that my duct tape mudflap didn’t work out too well. It’s too flimsy. The wind blows it almost horizontal, so it doesn’t do much good.

I took the long way home to avoid the hills, so the total ride was maybe 12 miles. About a third of what the plan called for today 🙁

In other news, my Candy bar bag is surprisingly waterproof. I was out for about an hour in a steady rain, and my cell phone and wallet and stuff didn’t have a drop of water on them.
